For a lot of slot makers, no matter how healthy they’re trying to be, sooner or later, they find themselves gorging in the candy section. In this instance, it’s the turn of Hacksaw Gaming partner Backseat Gaming to have a sugar-coated munch. The calorific slot in question is Chocolate Rocket, and as well as the popular theme; the studio has deployed an expanding, multiplying wild effect, the likes of which are popular amongst this family of casino game makers.
If it was possible to consume food through your eyes, just by looking at it, then Chocolate Rocket would be responsible for putting on significant amounts of weight. The game is held in one of those sweety wonderlands bursting with pinks and blues, while the gaming grid is encrusted with candy, chocolate, and sprinkles. It’s a classic image, common for a candy slot, and Backseat Gaming’s contribution administers a strong shot of saccharine goodness. However, as usual, a sweet, innocent wrapper is no guarantee that what’s inside will be just as sweet or innocent.
Chocolate Rocket’s launch pad is a 5×5 gaming grid with 19 paylines evaluating winning combinations from the leftmost side. The game takes wagers of 10 c to $/€100 and will suit players who prefer highly volatile math models. Bonus modes may be activated from the feature buy section, and the baseline RTP (at its highest available figure) is 96.37%.
Hard candies in the shape of triangles, squares, diamonds, stars, and hexagons are Chocolate Rocket’s low pays, awarding 2 times the bet for a 5 OAK winning combination. At 10x to 25x the bet for 6-of-a-kind are sticky treats, wrapped candies, lollipops, and gummy bears.
Chocolate Rocket: Slot Features
Chocolate Rocket blasts off with the help of Wild Rocket symbols, 2 bonus rounds – Chocolate Blast and Wild Rocket Festival, and bonus buys.
Wild Rocket
The Wild Rocket symbol lands, displaying an initial multiplier of x1 to x20. If it will be part of a win by doing so, it then expands to the top of the grid, multiplying its multiplier by the number of positions it expands over. Expanded Wild Rockets substitutes all of the regular paying symbols, and when more than one Wild Rocket is part of the same win, then the multiplier values are added together. Wild Rockets pay 25x the bet when landing a winning line of 5 wilds only.
Chocolate Blast
The Chocolate Blast bonus round is triggered when 3 scatter symbols land in the base game, awarding players 10 free spins. During the Chocolate Blast bonus, there is an increased chance of landing Wild Rocket symbols. Not scatters, though, they do not land during the bonus.
Wild Rocket Festival
Landing 4 scatters in the base game awards 10 free spins in the Wild Rocket Festival bonus. There is also an increased chance of getting Wild Rocket symbols in this feature, but this time, Wild Rocket symbols are sticky for the duration of the bonus, revealing a new initial multiplier on each spin. If a new Wild Rocket lands beneath an existing one, it replaces it. Scatter symbols also do not land in this feature.
Bonus Buy
From Chocolate Rocket’s bonus buy, players can activate BonusHunt FeatureSpins costing 2x the bet to make each spin 3 times more likely to trigger free spins. Sweet FeatureSpins cost 40x per spin and guarantee 2+ Wild Rocket symbols. Otherwise, Chocolate Blast costs 100x to buy, while Wild Rocket Festival is 200x.
Chocolate Rocket: Slot Verdict
It feels like a fairly safe bet that Chocolate Rocket won’t be winning accolades for crazy originality and we’ve seen slightly similar things in games like Rocket Reels (2021) already. Compounding the commonness of the chosen theme itself, Backseat Gaming has represented it in a conventional way, as if a candy fanatic has drifted off to sleep after a binge and their etheric body has floated away from the cold, dull and tasteless three-dimensional world to a sweet lovers realm. It has all been nicely, if unremarkably rendered, though, so if you like this style of slot in general, stepping into Chocolate Rocket will be reassuringly, pastelly, familiar.
Either way, with candy, it’s what’s inside that really counts, not the wrapper and Chocolate Rocket offers some pretty sweet gameplay. Like the visuals, the game’s features aren’t especially cutting-edge. Expanding wilds, wild multipliers, this is bread and butter stuff for Hacksaw Gaming and its buddies, with numerous past examples we could mention. Landing higher than x1 on a Wild Rocket was relatively rare in the base game, but if you manage to blast off with a potent expanded wild multiplier, or better, a bunch of expanded wild multipliers, then you can see why this sort of feature keeps coming back. The base game teases with hints of what is possible, the Chocolate Blast round theoretically more so, and the Wild Rocket Festival ups the stakes even further by adding a sticky characteristic to the Rocket Wilds.
However, the game could be tough, and even though it says there is an increased chance of wilds in free spins, maybe don’t count on a ton of them falling in. They could be frustratingly infrequent. However, in all phases, Chocolate Rocket’s 12,500x win cap can be achieved, which is heartening and points to the power of wild multipliers if they can synchronise for launch.
